Alea iacta est…

Perhaps using a quote once said before Caesar’s army entered Italy could be argued as slightly extreme when discussing any element of 21st century dating, however, although on a material front the weapons, the language and the landscape may differ – the passion, determination and commitment of a society can certainly be aligned.

When referring to a society, again this will differ from one demographic to another but one thing is certainly the same across them all – the million dollar wedding industry which feeds into the individual psyche to make us believe perfection on the day reflects the life time to come, the online dating industry which leads you to believe the quantities of fish have no bearing on the quality and of course, the traditional means where being set up suggest appropriate due diligence has been done and rather like a Katherine Heigl movie it will all work out perfectly.

Or more concisely, a Bollywood movie where a relationship works out against all odds with an incredible amount of colour involved and the underlying message where your elders will always know what’s best for you.

Post trying the conventional dating routine everyone will go through at some point in their life, I decided to try this method. You see, there’s a reason the population in south Asia is as large as it is and a certain generation pride themselves on their matrimonial skills – arranged dating/marriages are believed to be far more successful, imply longevity in a partnership and a scientific process which guarantees compatibility.

It would be foolish not to buy into an industry which promises the above – no hassle, no break ups, no default on promises. Hence, my social experiment starts. What I don’t realise is, once you are in, there is actually no going back.
